All NLEs can sync based on timecode which is more reliable than audio. ![]() ![]() If your cameras and audio recorders have timecode terminals, I recommend setting all devices to free run timecode and jam-syncing them. If they are using any other tree-oriented format, I recommend rewrapping all files before import with EditReady2, then bulk renaming files so they are globally unique, then importing with "leave files in place". Each camera and each gamma profile is different. E.g, Sony SLog3 should be exposed at 61% IRE on a 90% reflective white target. If you plan on using a certain color/gamma profile, make sure all cameras are set to that, and all shooters know how to expose for that. Then each production day, verify all cameras are set to that. Similarly, decide ahead of time what the final product's frame rate will be. That helps avoid level and clipping issues, although you can still clip if gain staging is set wrong on a wireless lav before reaching the recorder. If possible monitor all audio and use audio recorders with 32-bit floating point recording such as the Sound Devices MixPre Mk II series. If possible shoot a few sec of a color card, e.g: If possible white balance all interview shots and set exposure based on the mfg-recommended threshold for a white or grey card. Make sure all camera operators know the procedure for white balancing their cameras. If you end up with a bunch of files without correct date/time that's a problem on a large documentary. If you plan on significant file-level media organization before ingest to FCP that can be an issue.įor each shooting day, make certain that all cameras and recorders are set to the correct time of day. ![]() If you can avoid transcoding and proxies, that helps a lot.Ĭertain newer codecs will not display thumbnails in Mac Finder, or won't play in Quick Look or Quicktime, but they will play in FCP after ingest. Before you commit to a certain codec, I'd suggest doing some editing performance tests, including multicam. Re M1, in general they handle Long GOP formats well, but there's a lot of variation. If they are Sony FS7, FX6 or FX9, the XAVC-I (MXF) 10-bit 4:2:2 codec is excellent, smooth to edit, about 1/2 the size of ProRes 422 and roughly equal in quality. If your cameras can do intraframe 10-bit 4:22, I would not shoot ProRes RAW. What would be the best or industry standard codec for my camera originals?. planning for my first long form documentary and want to shoot in the best codec for Final Cut Pro workflow as well as for long-term archiving.I have at my disposal include H264 and H265 both long-GOP and intraframe in LOG, ProRes up to HQ, and ProRes RAW. ![]() ![]() In Dragonflight, besides your primary Crafting Skill, you have access to several secondary stats. Go ahead and test it out the next time you’re in Photoshop. I hope this article clarified your doubts about the mysterious and often underestimated Photoshop Eraser Tool. And if you paint over an area that doesn’t have the foreground color, you replace that color with the foreground color. When you activate the Pencil and enable the Auto Erase option, you paint – with the background color – any pixels that have the foreground color. Instead, you’ll find it in the Pencil tool. Auto Eraseĭespite the name, this isn’t a feature found as part of the Photoshop Eraser Tool. If you change your mind and decide to make them visible again, you can disable the layer mask – or unmask the parts that you want visible. Instead, you’re just hiding the pixels you don’t want. Technically, you’re not deleting those pixels – that’s why it’s non-destructive. Layer masks are a non-destructive way of “erasing” parts of your image. ![]() Layer masks hide the pixels instead of deleting them. The Background Eraser Tool is only available as a brush, but you can adjust the Limits and Tolerance to fine-tune according to your needs. This is best used with solid colors because a graduated blue – like the one in the sky, above – will leave a lot of areas untouched. This is ideal when you want to remove intricate areas like sky between leaves.įinally, the Background Swatch sampling mode will delete anything matching Photoshop’s current Background Color. ![]() Switch the sampling to Once, and the Background Eraser will erase anything with the color it sampled upon your first click. However, if I touch the branches, the Background Eraser will start deleting the trees. On the image above, for example, I can drag the Tool along the edge between the sky and the trees and it will delete only the blue from the sky. Continuous Sampling means that it will update the sample as you move the cursor. Below are the three different eraser tools in photoshop: Eraser Tool. You can adjust how the Background Eraser Tool conducts its sampling. Instead, the Background Eraser Tool samples whatever is underneath the middle of the cursor (marked with a +) and deletes areas that match the sampled color. The name suggests that it automatically erases the background of your image, thus eliminating the tedious work of selecting – but I’m afraid that’s not how it works. The Background Eraser Tool tends to confuse and disappoint Photoshop beginners. |
